For A Mild Soap

If you're looking for a mild soap with light coloring, then you may want to try the Pioneer soap recipe below. It has been used for quite some time and is a great recipe for utilizing various additives.

It sets up quickly and is easy to use with most soap molds.

Pioneer Soap

  • 106 ounces rendered fat, or tallow, or combination of both
  • 14 ounces lye
  • 41 ounces cold water

NOTE - If you use rendered kitchen fat you may opt to add fragrance to minimize the cooking odors.

Soap Qualities

  • Mild
  • Light colored. Typically off white, but color will vary depending on your choice of rendered fat
  • Shows trailings quickly
  • Sets up quickly and dries readily
  • May be milled wet or dry
  • Good for molds
  • Good for additives
